Cable Driven Parallel Robot (CDPR)

Capture.JPG

A Cable Driven Parallel Robot (CDPR) is a type of robot that uses cables as the mechanical links to move a payload over a large volume. This type of robot has certain advantages over more conventional 5-axis Cartesian Gantry robots and Robotic arm manipulators, when the size of the system is scaled up. CDPR is less expensive and delivers better performance when large volume workspace, heavier payload and greater speeds are called for.

The design of our cable driven parallel robot includes multiple winch-mount motors that drive cables attached to the base a robotic manipulator. The winches are mounted to pillars 2 m high at the corners of a rectangle of size 2m x 3m. The motors are driven by a custom designed electronics and custom programmed controller (developed in-house) in order to produce the desired motion.

Other Possible Application : Filament Winding, Sky Cam, Entertainment Industry, Moving payloads, pick and place, therapeutic assistance

This 5-Axis robot has motion in all 3 cartesian axes (X,Y,Z) and 2 rotation axes at the end effector (A,B).  The motion in all the axis is achieved through stepper motors. The The motors are driven by a custom designed electronics and custom programmed controller (developed in-house) in order to produce the desired motion. Present use of the robot is to carry out NDT on aerospace pannels

Other Possible Application : Pick and place, moving payloads
